Obstetrics is that the field of study targeting pregnancy, childbirth and therefore the postpartum period. As a medicine , obstetrics is combined with gynecology under the discipline referred to as obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN), which may be a surgical field.
Gynaecology
Gynaecology or gynecology (see spelling differences) is that the practice handling the health of the feminine genital system (vagina, uterus, and ovaries). Outside medicine, the term means “the science of women”. Its counterpart is andrology, which deals with medical issues specific to the male genital system .
Almost all modern gynaecologists also are obstetricians (see obstetrics and gynaecology). In many areas, the specialities of gynaecology and obstetrics overlap.
